Hi! We are @Shinryoku.Singapore!
In this post, we would like to share our experiment about propagation of Monstera.
Why we need to propagate?
We recommend to propagate your plants if you want to:
- Have more leaves
- Encourage new sprout
Propagation allows you to maintain your plant.
What happen to us
We adopt beautiful and giant Monstera on the other day.
But they already had fungal disease on some of their leaves.
The brown spots kept coming back even we wash or wipe them.
So, we decided to cut and propagate those leaves to make sure to prevent spreading disease.
And we found that this was right decision since we were succeeded to get new sprout from both of cutting and mother plant in the end.
Cutting and water propagation
This is what we cut from mother plant.
As you can see, there were many brown spots TT
Cut it between node and node
We cut him between node and node. This is most important thing to do as new roots and sprout come from node.
Put him in the water
Simply put him in the jar with water.
That’s basically all!
Wait until roots grow
This is 2 weeks later from cutting.
You can see a root is growing.
We will put him in soil once roots are grow enough.
For your reference, this is another cutting below.
Now he has new leaves.
Actually there are 2 cuttings in this pot. Originally both of them had disease and we cut them from mother plant and propagated them by water propagation as same as we mentioned.
We cut original leaf with disease off after they uncurled new baby. – That’s why one of them has only one healthy leaf.
We will cut the other leaf with disease once the baby is uncurled 🙂
That’s how we can get fresh new healthy monstera even from diseased leaf.
What happen to mother plant
This is after 2 weeks from cutting.
As you can see, there is new sprout from a node!
This is another 3 days later.
We believe that this sprout will grow and have new healthy leaf.
In the end, we saved mother plant from disease and get healthy babies on both of mother plant and cutting.
We highly recommend cutting and propagating if you want to maintain your plants.
Happy gardening!
