How to make a DYI moss pole

Hi! We are @shinryoku_plant_interior based in Singapore.

In this post, we would love to share how we make DIY moss pole.

We highly recommend to make your own moss pole because it’s super easy and cheap, and very helpful to ensure growing more than anything!

If you are tired to keep buying moss pole (That was me actually) please try this DIY.

Here we go 😉

What to Prepare

Making moss pole is super simple. You only need

  1. Stick or pole or branch
  2. String
  3. Moss

That’s all.

We usually grab some branches during going for walk. Branch is cute as they are wood, and well suits with plants.

How to make

Simply, wrap moss around brunch (pole or stick)and tie them up. That’s all!

Installation

We recommend to install moss pole at the early stage of growth as they naturally start hugging and climbing moss pole.

It’s bit hard to start training them to climb moss pole if they are already tall.

Here are pictures of our Syngonium albo before/after install the moss pole.

He is a cutting from mother plant and was short when we adopted him.

He gradually started hugging and climbing moss pole after we install moss pole.

And this is him after a month later.

You can see how he loves moss pole and hug it tightly.

Tips

We did nothing special to train him to climb but there is one thing that we highly recommend to do.

Keep the moss pole moist.

Aerial roots always crave for water. They grow their aerial roots where they can get water.

They grow faster and even more loving moss pole after we started to spray the pole.

Making moss pole takes less than 15 min 🙂

Hope you make your own pretty pole for you lovely plants!

Happy gardening.
